Synopsis

Album Description
2010 two CD collection from the British singer/songwriter containing both old and new material. The first CD, titled Piano, Guitar, Bass & Drums, consists of studio recordings, sourced from archival tapes, with Ray Russell on guitar, Alan Rushton on drums and Daryl Runswick on bass. The 1970 tracks are prior to the recording of his Time Of The Last Persecution album and contain alternative versions of songs from that album, two tracks from Fay's self-titled debut album, and previously unreleased songs. The second CD, Still Some Light, is a home-recorded studio album from 2009. 43 tracks.

CD Reviews

Windows and prayers of beauty
Wayne A. Cristaudo | Hong Kong | 07/17/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Bill Fay is one of those forgotten musical geniuses of the 60's and early 70's. Why he was overlooked then is hard to fathom - maybe it wasn't loud, pompous or glam enough. It doesn't really matter, though, because his work is still around, and it is exceptional. Short songs, full of pathos, heartfelt delivery and an enviable lyrical economy of words that manages to say all that needs saying on any topic he turns to in a few lines.

This album consists of two cds. The first is old material, pieced together from various tapes and demos etc. Because the songs are so good it is not bad, though on the material that he has released elsewhere, I generally prefer the released versions (even if sometimes the arrangements are a little overdone). But it is the second cd that is just perfect. The mood is contemplative and slow. And listening to it is like being in a prayer or meditation. His songs, usually six or seven lines, are little windows of beauty onto the world or the soul, and the effect of the music is so calming. You just want to keep listening forever - at least I do. This second cd is, to repeat, as perfect a cd as I have ever heard. I can't seem to get it off my cd player - maybe eventually I will, but for the moment I really like living in Bill's little bit of eternity."
