CD Reviews

FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THIS CD
ANTHONY AINSCOUGH | DUBLIN Ireland | 07/22/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Two days ago the Bill Cantos album finally arrived from Amazon in the post and since then I have not stopped listening to this CD.This is the first album from Bill in 5 years (Who Are You) and he is better known for his vocals on the Jay Graydon Project - "Airplay for the Planet". But I figure you wouldn't be reading a review about Bill Cantos unless you know about this guy's talents.Anyway the album is a mixture of all types of musiacl styles it kicks off with New Red Coat a mid-tempo tune driven along by a thundering bass sound from Jerry Watt. Next up is You Can't Go Back which was also covered by Arnold McCuller on the album of the same name this is a tune with a very cathcy chorus. The album swings into a Jazz mood with Give Me That Smile (imagine James Taylor singing Big Band). The next track is a strange choice but it works out pretty well a cover of the Annie Lennox track - Precious which features some great steel guitar and backing vocals provided by Rose Stone.Other highlights are the ballads The Deepest Blue and I'll See You Tonight. There is also an hilarious tribute to Elle Fitzgerald - tracks 8 and 9.The standout track is also a cover version that of the DeBarge ballad - All This Love but it is speeded up to a latin version and would make a great dance record if properly remixed. The album finishes off with two classic songs Make The Storm Go Away and the title track Movie In The Night Sky.If you appreciate good singer/songwriters then I urge you to purchase this album and you will not be disappaointed.I hope we don't have to wait another five years for a follow up album. Happy listening."
The Best AOR/West Coast CD of the year
T. Ito | Japan | 06/11/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Bill Cantos, known for his works with Grammy awarded producer/gutarist Jay Graydon is now releasing his 2nd solo album, breaking 5 years silence. This album includes various type of music, basically categorized as AOR/Adult Contemporary Music. Some are Jazzy, the other may be more pop. Do not hesitate to buy this album if you would like to enjoy the real music."
A Million Stars for MOVIE IN THE NIGHT SKY
rtpcraigs | Raleigh, NC USA | 07/09/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"SMOOTH JAZZ NEWS magazine rated MOVIE IN THE NIGHT SKY as one of this year's Best CDs. I agree and I hope you will too. This is
clearly one of the best jazz/pop CDs you'll ever here. One of the many great aspects about MOVIE IN THE NIGHT SKY
is that you don't just listen to this CD, you experience it!
There are 14 wonderful tracks and each is a masterpiece.
The songs MY DREAM ABOUT ELLA and SWEET AND LOVELY/LADY BE GOOD are show stoppers. ALL THIS LOVE (DeBarge)is remade into a spicyLatin version. DEEPEST BLUE and CAN I HELP IT features
Mr. Kirk Whalum on sax. MAKE THE STORM GO AWAY is one of
most beautiful songs ever written and the opening number
NEW RED COAT, cowritten with Bill's wife Mari Falcone, is
exceptional.

Give this CD a chance, and Bill's other jazz CD - WHO ARE YOU.
You'll be glad that you know who Bill Cantos is...
This man deserves so much more airplay!!! This is GREAT music folks."
