Great 1977 session by the jump blues singer
Huge-Johnson | Sunset Beach, CA | 06/26/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)
"Big Joe Turner was still in prime form for this 1977 session, of relaxed jump blues. Here he's backd by a small r&b sax combo, and he's in darn good company and singin' his blues away. This record swing and is smouldering hot. A great midnight or latenight party album. SEXY!!!"
Big Joe Turner Was Great Until The End Of His Career
Daniel B. Pepper | New York | 08/04/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)
"This album proves that Big Joe Turner was a force to be reckoned with until the end of his career. Though Pete Johnson's Boogie Woogie piano playing is absent from this album, the songs are stretched out, allowing Joe plenty of time to improvise enjoyable, humorous, and sometimes bawdy verses. This isn't the first album to buy if you're interested in hearing Big Joe Turner, but it's certainly a solid recording. "St. Louis Blues" and "My Train Rolled Up In Texas" are both excellent."
