CD Reviews

B.A.D. to the Bone
Mr. Richard D. Coreno | Berea, Ohio USA | 03/16/2009
(4 out of 5 stars)

"In the aftermath of his split with The Clash, guitarist Mick Jones returned with Big Audio Dynamite, which was experimental in style, while welcoming a number of musical genres into the mix.

The five albums feature Big Audio Dynamite - This Is Big Audio Dynamite (1985), No. 10 Upping St. (1986), Tighten Up, Vol. 88 (1988), Megatop Phoenix (1989) - and Big Audio Dynamite II, The Globe (1991).

Through sampling - oftentimes from movies and TV shows - electronic clubland beats, reggae and hip-hop, Jones has an incredible vision for the band's initial trio of releases. The concept drifted on Megatop Phoenix, with a revamped B.A.D. unable to rekindle the fire from 1985-1988.

Each CD comes in a mini-LP sleeve with the original artwork and liner notes. From the turmoil with The Clash came some very interesting material from Jones, which packed a solid creative punch in the mid-1980s."
