"WOW! A friend of my sister's who does music with kids recommended this C.D. I work with children too so I ordered it. Several weeks went by without my getting a chance to listen to it. Then my back started giving me trouble and while I was recuperating I put this on. My oh my this C.D is really something. "Put Your Hands on your Hips and Let your backbone slip" healed me right up. It captures the heart and soul of music and makes you want to put your hands together and sing! If you want to get yourself or others up and singing and clapping then get this C.D.

This is Bessie Jones carrying on her life's work of keeping this culture alive by teaching children and others how to sing it and, in the case of the games, play it. This was her mission, and I only wish someone had made a recording really worthy of the inestimable value embodied here. The sound is not great, and the children and adults who are joining in are not Bessie's Georgia Sea Island Singers, but they are participating and perhaps this will encourage today's listeners to do the same. You can sing and clap along here without embarrassment and learn a great deal about this culture which is so fundamental an element of what makes American music sound different from any other. Given the shortage of access to these vital roots, this recording is priceless. And frankly, I'd give almost anything to hear Bessie Jones sing live again."
