Goodman at his more commercial best

"This CD represents the Goodman band at one of its' peak periods with superb arrangements, with BG solos at a relentless pace - try "Scarecrow" or "Airmail Special" for starters. Mel Powell was a genius, his piano style("The Earl" for example) and arrangements were very advanced for the time, reflected in the style and looseness of the section phrasing which nevertheless remained disciplined. This is a very different sound from the 1936-39 band of a few years earlier,less jazz-oriented, but a really swinging outfit. Recommended........"
