In 1991, Walt Disney produced a musical animated film adaptation of Beauty and The Beast featuring songs by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. It won Oscars for Best Song and Best Original Score. The Disney version of Beauty and the Beast named Beauty 'Belle', and gave her a suitor named 'Gaston' who eventually plots to kill the Beast. Other aspects of the original story were changed or added. For instance, in the Beast's house Belle is befriended by the Beast's servants, who have been transformed into household objects. There is, of course, a happy ending. This film version was subsequently adapted for the stage which is where our compilation takes its lead. Performed by the West End Chorus the collection takes us through the Story of Belle and the Beast with songs such as 'Beauty and The Beast', 'Belle' and 'Something There'. Sanctuary. 2009.
