"All the songs on this CD are those given away by Lennon/McCartney to other singers like Cilla Black, Peter & Gordon, etc. The Beatles themselves never recorded those songs (not officially, at least).
This album was done by a Beatles cover band from Australia called The Beatnix (now they call themselves 'The Beatels' - right spelling) the way the original Beatles would have done it. I saw Beatnix a few times on stage and love their performance. Listen to 'Step Inside Love' or 'That Means A Lot' from this CD, and you'll know how good they really are."
You'll think they're The Beatles

"Fantastic. When I first listened to this CD, I thought: "Oh, my! There were all those Beatle songs that I hadn't listened to yet", and I ran to buy it. The Beatnix are a band set up just to record Beatle songs that The Beatles didn't. Some that they made to other singers, some that they just didn't want to release. If you buy it, don't miss "Its for you", a kind of Irish medieval waltz by Paul McCartney."
The great lost Rutles album!

"This album is just wonderful. I have been waiting for years to see a great Beatles tribute band record the lost Lennon/McCartney songbook. The Beatnix do an incredible job of recreating The Beatles' sound on songs written by Lennon/McCartney that were given away. Some of these songs eventually found their Beatles' versions released on The Anthology and Live At The BBC albums. "If You've Got Troubles", "That Means A Lot" and" I'll Be On My Way" are replicated here so well that you will hardly be able to tell the difference between The Beatnix and The Beatles' versions. Their version of "Like Dreamers Do" is much slower then The Beatles' version but has a very nice "This Boy" vibe with a little bit of "Oh Darling" thrown in for good measure. One of the great things about this cd is the version of "Step Inside Love" that has an incredible McCartney soundalike vocal. You would almost swear that it was actually Paul McCartney singing! The Ringo vocals are pretty spot on as well.
I hope that the Beatnix (who now call themselves the Beatels) release more unrecorded Beatles albums like this. There are plenty more Beatles era Harrison and Lennon/McCartney songs in the vaults that would be fun to hear fully realized. Come on guys, how about a finished version of "Sour Milk Sea", " Child Of Nature" or "Circles"? And please get this album back in print and in the shops! It's too good to stay buried away."
