Lunsford was that rare "insider-outsider" who understood the importance of preserving the folk tradition he came from, and could present it to others in an authentic way. A devoted researcher with a prodigous memory and great musical ability, he did much to save Appalachian music despite the encroachments of the modern world. Too bad Amazon was unable to present us with sample tracks, etc. But knowing Lunsford's music (try a sample or two from "Ballads, Banjo Tunes, And Sacred Songs Of Western North Carolina"), this CD MUST be good! " |
