No need for alarm: Despite the cover art for Juggling Babies and Barry Louis Polisar's wicked sense of humor, he doesn't attempt to joke about tossing tots skyward in rhythmic succession on this brilliant, thoroughly hilarious album. Instead, he kids around in a way that beleaguered new parents will marvel at. Whether it's diaper rash ("It creeps up on you slowly / If you don't watch out / It will sneak up on your rear / Or somewhere thereabout," sings Polisar), the chaos that can't help but reign in a two-toddler household ("Trouble is double when you've got two: / One fell into the toilet / One fell out of the car / One climbed into the dryer / One threw up on my guitar"), chronic, mind-numbing crying ("The books say you should soon be sleepy / I've done the things they said to do / I rocked you in the rocking chair / I stroked your cheek and cuddled you"), and a parent's least desirable duties ("Why is your diaper always wet? / You poo and pee on me and yet--oh, why do I love you?"), Polisar earns tons of points for originality and uncensored wit. He's also a first-rate musician who commands props and claims credit on this album's liner notes for ""all voices and vocals, six-string guitar, 12-string guitar, five-string banjo, nylon string guitar ... cymbals, baby toys, percussion sticks, shakes, knee slaps, ratchets, groans, and sound effects." This is a CD without a weak moment, and one that no new parent in possession of a sense of humor should be without. --Tammy La Gorce
