Works just fine

"I found out about the barely works in the irish section of the Rough Guide to World Music, a very nice resource specializing in the el gondo. I guessed that their sound would not be completely traditional since tha band is led by a banjo player and includes a tuba (I find that I rarely dislike a record with a tuba on it, personal quirk I guess). But I did not realize how much fun the Barely Works music would be. They cover a lot of ground, from originals to cover of old traditional tunes, "old Joe Clark", but a sense of humor is a key ingredient for all their songs. The musicianship is excellent ( I've got a crush on the fiddle player), and I love records that introduce different elements into a musical stew that tastes like something completely different. Reccomended if you like Richard Thompson and the Albion Band."
