"This is a wonderful CD, a compilation of other Custer LaRue albums. As an introduction to her style of folk, this CD would be an excellent choice.In many ways, I was reminded of Loreena McKennett's work, except that this was not a Celtic album. However, LaRue's high, haunting voice creates a somewhat similar soundscape.A cross between lullabies and traditional folk tunes, both in French and English, the "Ballads" album is a fine sampling of tunes from early America that have all but passed into oblivion. I highly recommend this album if you'd like a different kind of folk sound, or if you like McKennett's Celtic work and would like a to sample similar style or artist."

"This is the second album I purchased by Custer LaRue and I love it. Her voice is as sweetly melodious as ever and the songs, haunting at times, uplifting at others, are memorable. I am especially fond of some of the traditional French songs. My French is shaky, so if anyone can provide a translation it would be greatly appreciated!Anyway, buy the album. If you are a fan of traditional folk music you won't be disappointed."
