The Best There Is

"I am a professional cellist, and I have many versions of the Villa Lobos works. There can be no doubt that this recording is the definitive one. All the music is glorious, the arrangements are brilliant, and the singing is top-notch(although it is the cello choir that is the "raison d'etre" on this album) Aldo Parisot has always been able to show his students how to create a luscious "liquid" sound, and this album bathes the listener with a hint of Heaven. At least one of the players on this album is now a principal cellist of a major orchestra, and every single player is equally accomplished. There is nothing bad to say about this album. Put it in your car's CD player, roll down the windows, and crank the volume to Max. It's the closest to Heaven you'll get till you get there."

"I am a graduate of the Juilliard School in the same year this CD was produced. I have never heard a better recording of anything, ever. The freedom of sound that these cellists produce is something that I only heard growing up with my mother having a very good studio of cellists, and we played cello choir music frequently, the two villa-lobos bachianas being pieces my mom found for us to play while cruising through carl fisher as she frequently did. This is cello the way it was meant to be."

"I am actually aquainted with a couple of the cellists in this cd, and as the person who wrote one of the other reviews states, all of these cellists went on to become fantastic. The couple I know are both teachers. I have also met their teacher and director for this cd, and he is a fantastic man. The music in this cd brings you to another dimension and shows you another side of classical cello choir music!"
