Synopsis

Album Description
L?art de passage was a cult band of progressive new music in former East Germany, leading the way to musical and ideological freedom with evocative, thought-provoking and audacious albums. Renowned Canadian violinist and composer Helmut Lipsky discovered the members of this group in 1996 for his outstanding CD Moontide. Since then, they have toured together extensively in Canada and Europe with their very personal interpretation of Piazzolla?s Tango Nuevo music. Recorded live at the famous Berlin jazz club Bflat, ...Au Parfum de Tango captures all the raw energy, creative spontaneity and incredible virtuosity of the ensemble.

CD Reviews

A moment of grace

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is the live recording of a concert which took place at the Bb club in Berlin, which includes pieces by astor piazzolla and original compositions.

One can say that Lipsky and L'art de passage show very quickly that they play at the same musical level than piazzolla himself and his ensemble-

while having a very personal and original touch - and their own compositions as well, which prove of no lesser quality and interest.

Always breathtaking, their playing and versatility - be it in passionate, virtuosistic or humorous moments - and their improvisations impress at every turn.

I am a musician and have to say this is one of the best tango recording I have ever heard (even though it is way more than yet another conventional tango album)."
