Synopsis

Album Description
As a first album, "Swirl" is nothing less than monumental with something to offer everyone. It is diverse without being unfocused, fresh and classic. It captures moods and emotions that have become uncommon in the post-modern 1990s. Both with and without words, Swirl expresses the simple fact that contrived angst and obligatory cynicism are not all that todays music has to offer. Ashes music transcends todays suffering with its sweet melodies, complex moods and refreshingly honest approach.

CD Reviews

A wonderful album that never fails to amaze...

(5 out of 5 stars)

"I remember back in the early nineties seeing Ashes (then they were called Swirl) perform and being awestruck by the talent before my eyes. Finally, after so many years, I am able to listen to them through their cd, aptly titled "Swirl". Besides being somewhat nostalgic, there is a lot to be appreciated on this album. If Andreas Vollenweider and Robert Smith had a child, its name would be Ashes. The whole thing is pretty overwhelming like a Vollenweider album and yet has a distinct pop feeling to it in a way that bands such as Blur and The Cure have also harnessed. Ashes is certainly the best American band in its genre and if you are into the whole shoegazer scene, then you should really check this album out. I guarantee that you will not be disappointed."
