Acoustic Jazz in mono!
Phil S. | USA | 08/28/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)
"Classic jazz from 1957 and 1958 and New York and Paris, it's Art Blakely and his recently renewed and reassembled group, giving us vital workouts on traditional tunes like "Moanin'" [at 14 minutes plus!], and "Evidence", plus two very ear-friendly Broadway entries by Lerner and Loewe.
European tracks have especially engaging ambience.
By 1959, that new sonic phenomenon called "Stereo" was amanufactured for the masses, and the early albums could be a pleasure - but let's treasure those full-bodied hifi/mono efforts, like this one from a master drummer and band leader.
