CD Reviews

Complex, melodic and a great ride...

"If you like Armin's ASoT (which imnsho is the epicenter of trance), this is a must have. Great choices and ordering of his favorites rolled into an extremely creative mix. The technical work is top-notch with a few so blatantly obvious change-ups just to let you know that he is completely in charge.

The weave is very rich and snippets sneak back in from time to time to create an incredible vibe."
Perfection!

"Like with the last years 2006 yearmix Armin does it again with the 2007 edition! Amazing mixing and track selection, it is hard to get enough of this stuff! I only wish he started this tradition some years ago because there isn't a better way to review a year and what you get is 2 hours of amazing tunes at a fantastic pace! Armin, you are the master!"
Excellent mixing skills

"Once again Armin van Buuren regales us with his superb ability to select and mix tracks that go together as an organic whole. I give this CD 5 stars for exposing so skillfully many tracks in a relatively short compilation. It really gives you an appreciation for the variety of electronic music released this past year. While some people may be turned off by the hyperactive nature of mixing on the CDs - tracks change every 1.5 to 2 minutes - anything longer would probably be too overwhelming to be released as a CD compilation. CD 1 really comes to a climax initiated by Maor Levi's "Shapes" and brought to an apex at Cape Town's "Metaphorique (Ferry Tale Neverending Story Mix)", only to be brought back into a progressive mood with Sander Van Doorn's mix of "King of My Castle". After the high point, Purple Mood's "One Night in Tokyo" creates a mood of reflection, a slight step back to a calming yet driving beat. Finally CD 1 is wrapped up by a section bookended by two of Breakfast's instantly classic euphoric progressive tracks "The Horizon" and "Sunlight". CD 2 continues on a similar roller coaster of emotional release, maybe with less vigor than CD 1 brought us through, but all the same an immensely satisfying listen.

This compilation is a reminder that epic progressive trance still has a significant place in the seemingly minimalist electro-house dominated EDM (Electronic Dance Music) scene, despite its regression from the limelight since the early 2000's. The EDM DJ's really practice an art form by creating music from disparate trakcs to make all of these parts into one living track. Get this compilation if you appreciate trance for all that it is and more so if you miss that great age of epic and euphoric trance."
