CD Reviews

Classically motivated funk
forester199 | new york, ny | 06/08/2001
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I accidentally purchased this CD a few days ago. I was more than a little annoyed when I realized it, but I thought the cool design justified trying it out before I returned it. I will not be returning it now. I love this album. It is fun to listen to. It is something I will share with my friends. All I can say is that even if you think you are looking for something else, possibly called archipelago, you should give this a shot. you might really like it."
Glossy, sleek, rich

"At some point, and possibly soon, people may actually be ready to listen to music that is this thoughtfully prepared. The energy that Kuuskmann, Rozenblatt, and Schimmel bring to this material is oddly reminiscent of the swelling enthusiasm that surrounded punk rock in the late 1970s. This album is sumptuous without being burdensome. It is clever without irritation. Kuuskmann, known for his fine work in Absolute Ensemble, is particularly sharp. His bassoon is a weapon against the common. With Rozenblatt and Shimmel he has created that which is all too rare: music that is charged by its creators; its infectious fun threatens to leave an indelible mark on contemporary music."
Brilliant!

"Stunning, full of rage!A new star is born in U.S.A,Martin Kuuskmann has done a superb job,and we can smell some oriental tastes too,but also classics like stairway to honey(remember led zeppelin). What a wonderful idea of bringing them together...I mean accordion, which gives a solid bass and background, percussion to have some lightness and off course bassoon, which sounds like a new instrument there. Personally liked the title piece, harbor lights, autumn lives, stairway to honey,piazzolla/getz,walk on the wild side and windmills of your mind (remember sting in Thomas Crown affair soundtrack). People - this is something and I mean something,go get it and fast."
