CD Reviews

Beautiful psychosis
C. Bingham | Snohomish, WA USA | 05/31/2002
(4 out of 5 stars)

"In 1973/74 when I first heard this album it it was part of the mass of psychedelic concept albums that were the mainstay of underground radio. Based on the psychotic landscape laid out in the last book of the bible, Vangelis' hallucinogenic opus exemplifies a kind of musical break with reality. I lapped it up with spoon. It compares favorably with Dark Side of the Moon, though it gets a tad repetitive at times. The use of tape loops, and unusual instruments outside the guitar / bass / drum standard at the time makes it a stand out. Not to be missed is Irene Papa's eight minute vocal orgasm as she is possesed by the beast. Get this CD for a slice of history, and a trip to a time when music still had some room left for experimentation."
One of the best symphonic rock concepts of all time
Jan-Willem van Aalst | 11/09/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Vangelis was in an incredible state of inspiration when creating the songs for 666 on words by Costas Ferris. Some of the weirdest experiments in rock are complemented by some potential haunting hit singles, notably "Break", and "Aegean Sea", the latter being without doubt one of the finest examples of symphonic rock to date. It never got the attention it deserves because Aphrodite's Child had already broken up by the time this album was finished, singer Demis Roussos had already started his easy-listening solo career and Vangelis was already working on his first film scores. Still, this double album is one of the highest artistic peaks ever achieved in rock and if you're open to such a thing, this is a definitie must-have in your collection."
Off Broadway Sixties Musical
Jan-Willem van Aalst | 07/02/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I first got turned on to this when I was a senior in High School and I never forgot it. Its almost like a srange off broadway musical that never got close to making it because of its subject matter. The music is incredable if your into a really sixties sound.A combination of T rex, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Jefferson Airplane."
