CD Reviews

Illustrates how great a singer Anita Pointer is
gassy goon | 03/21/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This solo album by Anita Pointer illustrates what a tremendous singer she really is. She really has a gifted voice, and can sing so effortlessly that it's taken for granted how wonderful her vocal talent really is. On all 9 of the songs here , Anita pours out her heart , and listening to her is just a sheer pleasure. Knowing all her work in the Pointer Sisters , where she sang lead on a majority of their biggest hits [ FIRE, SLOW HAND, I'M SO EXCITED, YES WE CAN CAN, HOW LONG , FAIRYTALE and others ], this album represents more sides to her that you might not know.

There are some fine songs, and even better performances on this solo project. Many of the songs are uptempo, and Anita can really belt it out , as heard on HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN LOVE, BEWARE OF WHAT YOU WANT and LOVE ME LIKE YOU DO, just a few of my favorites here. LOVE FOR WHAT IT IS is a slower number that Anita really tears it up on. You won't be disappointed hearing Anita soar on this song. TEMPORARILY BLUE is a beautiful ballad with steel guitar , and is a standout here also. Philip Bailey duets with Anita on THE PLEDGE. Producer Preston Glass does a fine job , and Anita just sounds tremendous. It's somewhat Pointer Sisters sounding, but a bit different as well in that it's not a group album. It's nice to listen to this, and June Pointer's solo albums as well. Her daughter Jada, and Linda " Peaches " Green sing background, and it all sounds great. I definitely recommend this to any fan of the group and Anita's. You will hear some deep cuts here that are yours to discover and enjoy."
