CD Reviews

One of the only soothers for my colic baby...

"My daughter was extrememly colic when she was born and it lasted for about the first eight months of her life. This cd was one of only two cd's that I owned (and I own lots of lullabies)that would soothe her. It truly was a saving grace to me at times when I thought I might lose my mind trying to figure out a way to help her during these crying fits.

I noticed that some of the complaints for the cd relate to the inability to hear the lyrics well; The voices are soft so if this is something that might bother you, I would not recommend this cd. However, for me, soft and soothing is exactly what I wanted. I was never bothered by the softness of the voice and, instead, on the contrary found, that to be quite appealing. The music is soft; The voices are soft; Together they are very soothing.

I love this cd. My daughter is now 2 (and colic-free) and she still loves this as well. I would recommend this cd to any parent looking for something soothing for their baby.

Angelic lullabies straight from Genie's heart to her listene

"On her album Angels All Around, Genie provides a delightfully soothing collection of traditional (and not so traditional) lullabies, sure to please children and adults alike. It certainly relaxes this reviewer after a long day! The synthesizer is prevalent on this album, and is always beautifully incorporated, but never overdone. At the center of each song is Genie's pristine voice, which is sweet as birdsong, delicate as flower petals, and gentle as freshly fallen snowflakes.

The album begins with "Abba Father", a sweet and simple little song sure to make you smile. "All The Days of Your Life" is delightful and beautiful, and is enhanced by backing vocals from Genie's husband Troy. This is followed by "The Lord Bless You and Keep You", filled with beautiful vocal contrapuntal lines and a wonderful message. "I Will Call" is another beauty, and "All Night All Day", a personal favorite from my own childhood, is truly inspired.

Genie's version of "Rockaby Baby", mercifully, leaves out all references to falling cradles and infants, and is truly fantastic, especially given her vocal delivery. "Shining Stars (Twinkle)" is a delightful version of an old favorite, enhanced by shimmering synthesizers. Again, Genie changed the lyrics on this one, and it's a really nice piece.

"Brahms Lullaby" is pretty much a given, and again, a beautiful arrangement. "Angels We Have Heard On High" is a great surprise, and a very clever edition to this album. I love the bell like synthesizer sounds on this piece.

"Before You Were Born" is a spoken word piece, with some beautiful vocals to add to the charm. "Hush Little Baby" is beautifully done, while "Everland" is a gorgeous and peaceful instrumental. "My Jesus I Love Thee" and "Jesus Loves the Little Children" are sweet and sincerely delivered, and the closing instrumental, "Sheep May Safely Graze", is a wonderful way to close this lovely and relaxing album.

Angels All Around is a delightful listening experience, sure to sooth listeners of all ages. Highly recommended!"
Too noisy as lullabies

"I'm very disappointed. I bought it for my 8-month old but it does not work - instead the music agitates the baby. I like Genie's beautiful voice, but the backgroud music is way too noisy - I can hardly hear her voice at all! I myself do not enjoy the music either. I'm going to give it away.

Later I bought Wee Sing for Babies which was recommended by another mother. I love it, so does the baby! It comes with a CD, cassete, and a book with lyrics, music scores and instructions of simple games you can play with your baby. The second part of its 65 songs are lullabies, and they are so soothing and beautiful! All these cost only $8.99. I wish I had bought this one at the first place."
