CD Reviews

Excellent Piece of Speech
ekogirl | san francisco, ca | 02/23/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This 54 minute oration by Angela Davis is a very complete piece on the topic of the ever developing incarceration of minority groups in US society. Angela incorporates many elements into the conceptualization of the reason and psychology behind the development and alarming increase in prison growth. She speaks with amazing knowledge, personal experience and wit. The discussion comes full cycle and closes with suggestion on how to be proactive in assisting the incarcerated people in our society because our justice system has created an environment of punishment and not reform."
Support restorative justice, not the criminalization of poor

"In this informative lecture, legendary black liberation activist Angela Davis discusses the frightening growth of the U.S prison industrial complex as a means of silencing political dissent, warehousing the poor, and controlling communities of color. She also talks in depth about prison labor and the role of prisons in the global economy. As this lecture was given at the 1997 Critical Resistance confrence, I am sad to say that things have only gotten worse. If you listen to her speak, you too will be convinced (if you're not already) of the importance of the prison abolition movement. You too will be convinced that the solution to anti-social behavior is not incarceration, but universal healthcare, housing, fair wages, and education."
