Angel Witch - 'Resurrection' (Mausoleum) import
Mike Reed | USA | 04/18/2004
(3 out of 5 stars)

"I was forewarned that this compilation disc was nothing but a bunch of crappy sounding demos. To my delight,'Resurrection' is actually halfway decent.Better than their 1986 'Frontal Assault' effort. That's for sure.Angel Witch is a true hard luck story.I'm literally amazed that the band even still exists,in any form.Vocalist/guitarist Kevin Heybourne more or less IS Angel Witch. They've done a couple of brief U.S. tours since they hit the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal scene in 1979.Some might refer to Angel Witch as a one-lp band.Their rivals at one time were Def Leppard and Iron Maiden.Their main influences were probably Sabbath and Motorhead.'Resurrection' is made up of,in my humble opinion some good qulaity demos the band penned from 1987-1998.Some of these tracks show up on their second live release '2000:Live At The LA2',which now makes me wanting to hunt down a copy of THAT disc.Choice cuts would be "Time To Die","Violence",the melodic "Twist Of The Knife",the ballcrushing "Psychopathic 2" and "Scrape The Well".Not wanting to be a smart ass,but HAS Angel Witch EVER sold more than, say 50 or so copies of any of their CD's/lp's?In my ENTIRE concert going/CD buying life,I've MAYBE come across four(4) others who had even remembered the name.Give it ALL up for UK's obscure metal veterans, the TRUE underdogs of the record industry......ANGEL WITCH!A fun way to relive some decent '80's metal.Should appeal to fans of Sanctuary,Judas Priest,Celtic Frost,Saxon,Crimson Glory and Diamond Head."
