"Made in UK in 2000, Serial# VSOPCD-322, Playing Time 75:28This is the second compilation to come out featuring ANGEL(see 1992's "An Anthology"), this time to probably cash in on their 1999 comeback. The compilation lifts tracks from all 6 of their early albums, including the live set "Live Without A Net". All songs are in full-length, and presented chronologically: you get to hear their musical evolution. The booklet credits track 16 as coming from "LWAN", but it's in fact the single version of the song, a studio recording for the soundtrack of the movie "Foxes".I remember putting their first album on my turntable back in 1975: the album, just like this CD, opens with "Tower". It floored me, and if you've never heard early ANGEL material, it will floor you as well: rich textures, syncopated rhythm, scorching guitars, and vocals that are DiMino's trademark. There are only 6 tracks in common with the 1992 "Anthology" CD, so this one is a nice complement, and I found the track selection to be a bit more powerful.Don't base your opinion of ANGEL (good or bad) on what they sound like now: the current absence of Giuffria (both as writer and musician) makes a tremendous difference. The cover art shows them in white satin: an original look for an original type of music. This disc will give you a great opportunity to check out 1 of my favorite bands from the late 70's."
