CD Reviews

Fantastic
William R. Nicholas | Mahwah, NJ USA | 01/07/2006
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This CD is amazing. Generes pop out by the tens in just seconds; funk, euro-rock, turkish hippie music and 70s hard rock sludge. A voice implies at the start of the album that Votel is packing over 2000 pop records, and you'd better beleve it. Each soundbyte hints at entire areas of music a curious lister could explore, yet each snippit feels made to sit next to its neighbor.

I have not named any tracks: I only know one or two. Mind you, I am a man who has been buying records left and right since infancy. Votel has given me a great gift as a record collector, and shown me everything I DON'T know yet.

So the CD works on two levels: As a great album, very high-end ear candy created by a wonderful composer, and as a referance point to hardcore album junkies looking for the next high.

The only problem is that there is no list of the samples Votel used. He may show you the doors, but finding the keys are up to you.
