"First off, buy anything this label puts out. They manage to give you the best recordings by a particular group at a fantastic price! I have a number of their swing band series and love every one. This one is special because of the arranging and piano playing by Mary Lou Williams, a jazz giant. One of the first women to make a name for herself in a big band, she ended up contributing most of the bands songs and doing all the arranging. And this band could swing! And you get none of the mediocre Pha Terrell vocals that plague some of this bands other recordings. A great introduction to a great band from Kansas City."
