Lyrical but almost too sweet

"This CD has 12 classic Japanese melodies that demonstrate the wonderful play between harp and flute. It contains the wonderful "Moon over the Desolate/Ruined Castle" as well as beautiful works such as "Red Dragonfly" and "Chin Chin Chidori". However, the CD lacks depth in that the 12 selections remain light and do not venture into the a-tonal or the tragic. Rather than buy this CD I would recommend Japanese Melodies for Flute and Harp by Jean-Pierre Rampal and Lily Laskine. This second CD contains many classics but it includes some selections that venture into the sublime."
