Masterful music, flawed recording

"Ustad Amir Khan is one of the most respected Indian musicians of this century, and upon hearing this CD, it is plain to see why. His singing is powerful yet subtle, and he brings out the very essence of the ragas played here, being Raga Nand, Bahar and Darbari Kanada. The other side of the coin, of course, is the poor recording quality, the lack of information regarding the recordings (not even the recording date is mentioned anywhere), and, worse, the ragas have been edited, with the Alap completely missing in all three rags- the recourdings cut in abruptly somewhere in the middle of the piece. Still, this is wonderful music, and since recordings of this masterful artist are difficult to find these days, it is recommended to any serious admirer of classical Hindustani music."
