Synopsis

Product Description
Kevin Oliver, writer for No Depression, said this: 'On their second album, South Carolina's American Gun sift Uncle Tupelo, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen through a filter of southern gothic story-telling and rock 'n' roll energy, coming out with a batch of pure, stripped-down twang 'n' roll.' Frontmen Todd Mathis and Donald Merckle trade songs throughout; Mathis offers up the drawling Horses and the appropriately guitar-heavy Neil Young Mood, while Merckle keeps to a tightly focused pop-rock sound on Fight Song and Drunk Girls.

CD Reviews

GREAT CD!

(5 out of 5 stars)

"American Gun is on the rise! This CD blends folk, rock, and some country twang into one excellent CD! The cohesiveness of the instruments and sounds makes this a must buy. Steel guitar, horns, and mandelin has an array of sounds bouncing off of your eardrums. Sounds of influences by Wilco, Neil Young, Drive by Truckers and others appear throughout this album. I Highly suggest picking it up if you're tired of the crap on mainstream radio like I am. If you're ever in Columbia, check 'em out...helluva a live band as well. "Horses", "Girl Done Gone" , "Moonshiner", "Nature VS Man" are my favorites off the of album."
Great album from a band you haven't heard of yet

"Purchased this album after hearing much buzz surrounding the band. I must say that I was blown away. A well recorded and produced record. There are good songs and a few great songs. If you're like me and enjoy bands such as Drive-By Truckers, Lucero, Bruce Springsteen, Son Volt and Neil Young, this album is highly recommended. Now if I could only get a hold their other records."
