CD Reviews

Alice, I salute you.
M. F. Harold | UK | 04/08/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Welcome back Alice, loved all the albums I have brought, this being the 7th and I think, the best so far. (I will get the others very soon) Being from the UK I do not know how highly rated Alice is with you Americans but from a Brit, this girl is like a breath of fresh air and deserves to be high up there in lights. It's hard to find a stand out track as they are all so good, "Promise of the Sun" is an early favourite but honestly there is not a duff track in sight. I like the environmental and peace issues running through her work, we need more people like Alice to bring these issues home. Alice, I salute you and all the work you have done and congratulations on another brilliant album."
If Sparks Should Ignite
Lee Armstrong | Winterville, NC United States | 03/31/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Alice Di Micele's 9th CD is my introduction to her music! Her alto is expressive with melodic midtempo folk/pop tunes. "I'd rather look at you straight in the eye just to see what is there to be found, If sparks should ignite, you could come spend the night; We could have some fun foolin' around," she sings on "Conjuring." "Take Me Out on the Water" mirrors the CD photography of rapids and nature streams where Alice's voice acquires a blues quality similar to Louise Taylor's excellent CD Written in Red. "Made Out of Water" is perhaps my favorite track with its bouncy melody and handclap percussion, "One day I found myself on an island, I dove into the ocean so warm & sweet; and the songs came, shook me to my spirit like the big waves crashing on that white sand beach." "Promise of the Sun" is a delicious meditative track, "May I have the will to give when I'm afraid there will not be enough; May I speak a gentle word when the language of the day is angry & rough." All of the songs are originals except for the traditional "Wayfaring Stranger" that Alice polishes with added lyrics, "I'm going back to see my father; I'm going back no more to roam; I'm just a girl going over Jordan; I'm just a long way from home." "The Cottonwoods" concludes the set with Alice's lovely guitar. This is an uplifting set from this exceptional singer. Enjoy!"
