Synopsis

Album Description
Ali Boulo Santo was born in Dakar, Senegal about thirty years ago. His uncle was the very famous "King of the Kora," Soundioulou Cissoko and hence Ali Boulo Santo grew up with a kora in his hands. (A kora is instrument with a harp-like appearance and a notched bridge similar to that of a lute or guitar. It sounds somewhat like a harp, but its intricate playing style can be compared to that of a flamenco guitar). In 1999, Frédéric Galliano discovered Ali and his talents ? Ali mixes and blends traditional with the new, from every aspect of Manding culture, to a more pop-driven and modern approach. One example of his innovation is his use of a wah-wah pedal on his instrument while singing in his native Senegalese. His new album is more than just unique. Every track synthesises all his influences, but retains its integrity as a West African music album. Six years ago in Senegal, Ali at a solo performance claimed, "the king is not dead, the king is not dead?" ? a possible reference to his uncle. He certainly isn?t, as Ali seems to be his more than worthy heir.
