"I didn't know anything about Alexi the athlete. I picked up a stack of 8 in-store copies and this was one whose music demanded that I take a copy home. It's always a kick when the music sells the CD. "Goodnight Moon" is an electric whirlwind. My favorite is "Pretty Mess" with its throbbing rhythm guitar and infectious pop hooks, "Hey, hey, hey just another cliche; too much too fast then it slips away." "Drive-By Serenade" is midtempo electric track with a somber lyric, "Trusts betrayed & wreaths are laid; It's just another drive-by serenade." "Pop School" with its odd chorus, "I'm a pop school nerd," works less well for me. "Sonic Lullaby" speeds by like a 50-yard dash. "This Should Be" has a nice melody with stops and starts, "Paradise is just around the corner." Acoustic guitar and a softer sound are highlighted on "Vacancy," "When all the moments disappear & all the signals aren't so clear, all we're left with is tomorrow & a change." "What I've Done" is a tight little track with more hooks than melody. On "Gemini" rhythm guitar stars. My other favorite is "Half A Chance" with its more acoustic arrangement, strong melody and expressive vocal, "Dreaming of the future but living in the past." "Ginger" is a solid pop CD. What it lacks in groundbreaking originality, it more than makes up for with energy and a joyful noise. Seek it out!"
Not Cutting-Edge but Catchy

"I heard people say this album was awful, but I'm a soccer fan... so I sought it out for morbid amusement, just like one might buy a William Shatner album just for laughs. Given those low expectations, I was quite surprised. It's pop, it's not very cutting-edge or risky or ambitious, but on the other hand you can tell he puts his heart into the writing _and_ the singing _and_ the guitar playing. "Goodnight Moon" and "Vacancy" and "Half A Chance" kinda stick with you like good pop songs do, so that you suddenly catch yourself mumbling the words when your guard is down, long after you finish the album. On the musical spectrum, he's somewhere in the vicinity of the pop/rock band "Stroke-9" (Album: Nasty Little Thoughts) but a bit more acoustic. A good example of why you shouldn't blindly trust other people's cynical reviews."
Just Love Alexi...

"I absolutely love this CD! I have been following Alexi Lalas as a soccer fan for years, ever since I can remember. I always though that he was a truly unique individual, and I just love his music. It rocks, to put it simply, but the lyrics are also profound and thoughful. I relate to so many of his songs, and I know every single word from Ginger and Far From Close ( which is also awesome!)by heart. I had my Far From Close CD signed by him at a Revolution game, and the greatest thing was that Ginger had just come out, and he gave me this totally disgusted look when I handed him my CD, and said, "You've gotta get the new one." I love the fact that I can tell that story, because I adore the man and all the work he puts into his music..."
Lalas? Good musician cosidering he's an athlete? Or........

".....is it more like "Good athlete considering he's a musician?" This CD rocks! It has kind of a Gin Blossoms/Soul Asylum/Goo Goo Dolls feel to it. Those bands have suceeded because they have one good song and play ten to fifteen versions of it per CD. Alexi does the same here, but he is playing one hell of a song! This is one of the first CD's that I have listened to all the way without having to skip over some of the tracks the first time through. I bought this CD as a fan of US Soccer, and will listen to it religously as a music fan. Buy It! Buy It Now! You will not be disappointed!"
Not only a soccer-star

"The long-bearded American soccer-star Alexi Lalas has made an absolutely brilliant album, which I can only recommend. If you like bands such as Goo Goo Dolls and Gin Blossoms, then you'll freak over this one. Probably my best cd of the year so far."
