Sandy Shore | Monterey, CA | 08/01/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"While Horace Alexander Young might not (yet) be a household name, with a background that includes performances in nineteen countries on five continents with the likes of Sam "Lightnin" Hopkins, B.B. King, Bill Withers, McCoy Tyner, The Manhattans, Regina Belle, Toots Thielemans, Jonathan Butler, Youssou N' Dour, Nancy Wilson, Dwight Sills, Norman Brown, Betty Carter and others, plus a dazzling new recording this seems likely to change in the near future. Young's talents stretch the gamut from multi-instrumentalist (woodwinds, keyboards and percussion) to vocalist to composer and producer. ACOUSTIC CONTEMPORARY JAZZ is a stellar showcase for each of these gifts. The songs are bright and original, the performances crisp and full of vivacity. One of the highlights, "Find Your Love" is both sweet and sassy, with a sax line that will immediately capture you. Contrary to its name, "Let's Lounge" will leave you wanting to do anything but with it's dynamic and sexy, head bopping groove that is utterly engaging. Young proves that "Chicken N'Waffles" can not only be tasty, but great to listen to. Fun and energetic, the many layers of this tune will suit your palette! With theses songs, Young could easily have titled the recording "BLUEPRINT FOR" ACOUSTIC CONTEMPORARY JAZZ! ~BETH LEWIS"
Love the remake of the Vandross tune
