CD Reviews

Reincarnated, This Is My Rebirth
N3R0 | Story City, Iowa | 06/20/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I haven't done an amazon review in awhile, but this album is too darn good for people not to know how dope it is. I didn't even know Alex King p/k/a Lexx Luger (og member of CWB) was putting out a cd until the day it came out and I saw a post congratulating him from Haystak producer Jon Conner. I'd been hoping for and anticipating another release from him after his nearly flawless mic work and dope production work on the CWB-Southwest Connection album. Even had I known about this release since the day that album came out, and it had been hyped up more than Eminem's comeback, I wouldn't be disappointed.

This album contains DOPE live instrumentation, and unlike most hip hop "bands" it also contains distinctly hip hop elements like scratching, vocal samples, and 808 drums. Alex even references artists like Jay-Z and Jadakiss, distinctly east coast artists (a rarity of sourthern artists) but this just goes to show that he considers himself a true lyricist and has respect for hip hop of all types. This album is a concept album (about guess what? Reincarnation) and it delivers on it's premise. From the first song to "Miss You" this album consistently brings heat in all flavors, from the personal (title track), the braggadocio ("Takeover"), and the inspiring (the lead single "What If I"). The live instrumentation switches up as well, from electric guitars to acoustics to synths and pianos, this doesn't sound dull or repitive for a moment. Never letting up, Alex and cohorts show you can do reality rap in a creative way without sacrificing being hard, as shown on the reflective but tough as nails "It Is What It Is". Overall, this is the best album of 2009 so far (though I don't know how it could be surpassed). It's production is groundbreaking, it's lyrics are thought provoking without ever being cliche, and overall there isn't a skippable track. If you love hip hop, you'll love this record."
4 Stars! Dope Heartfelt CD!

"This is a good CD that was unexpected in 2009. I had no clue who Alex King was or that this CD was coming out - but was alerted by N3ro and bought it off of his rec. Turned out to be a good CD. I enjoy honest, heartfelt rhymes and this is definitely full of them. Alex King bares it all on here and has some dope music to match.

He used to be part of the CWB movement with Haystak, but take it from a non-CWB - you don't have to be white to feel this man's music. He has a good universal message and it is worth a listen."
