CD Reviews

Penelope Spheeris - THE chronicler of early 80's punk
M249freak@aol.com | Orange County, CA | 06/23/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This movie and soundtrack are treasures. If you were in diapers back then (or not even born yet) and are now one of these little rats I see running around calling themselves punk, LISTEN UP!!!! BUY THEM BOTH!! Listen and watch real bands and real people living in a very weird time in So. Californian history. T.S.O.L. rocks on both tracks, and "Richard Hung Himself" never sounded so good. Flea and Penelope went on to big things, and look for a certain Jack Diddley in Oliver Stone's "Platoon". This movie and "Decline of Western Civilization" launched Penelope Spheeris - and rightfully so. Gritty and real can best describe her powerful directing. Great soundtrack that is a must for anyone's collection of SoCal punk. TR kids are way cool."
Timeless Punk
Kerry H. Meehan | Peekskill, NY | 05/28/1999

"This movie and this album have been a favorite of mine for years. The album contains real punks, real bands, and just brings you back to the underworld of 1982. One highlight is an acting debut by Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. His finest performance ever was given in this film. All the bands on this soundtrack are great, even though none made it to the light of day. TSOL has two excellent tracks, Darker My Love was released only on this album. Alex Gibson made an excellent soundtrack as well. And even though Flea and director Penelope Anne Spheeris both made it big in later years, I still wonder what happened to the rest of the characters in this film. If you're a punker, You gotta see this film, you gotta buy this soundtrack."
Punk Rock!!!

"I loved this movie when I first saw it, especially since it was filmed in Downey, California, off the 605 freeway. I grew up not far from there. The music is amazing. It brings about all the teenage angst I felt way back when... TSOL- great! DI- great! I even love some of the lines they put in from the movie.
If you wanna get the true meaning of punk, this CD is for you."
