Not easy to find, but well worth it!

"In turns, gorgeous, vibrant, elegant, introspective, relaxing, romantic. Music to soothe the soul. No reason to skip a single song. BUY IT IF YOU CAN!!"

"Self-taught, unorthodox, and at times truly inspired, early Alex de Grassi is well worth listening to. I recently recorded my lps to cassette to mp3- his first 4 releases (Turning: Turning Back ('78), Slow Circle ('79), Clockwork ('81), and Southern Exposure ('84). The first two are excellent, and similar in sound and style; much of Clockwork is excellent, too. Southern Exposure has an 80s sensibility to it (think Chardonnay and sunlight), whereas his first two releases are most definitely 'morning' and 'rain' (along with a 70s sensibility). They hold many truly outstanding moments, as towards the end of Sleeping Lady, during which De Grassi shows us how incredibly fast (and clean) he can play- utterly mind blowing...Overall, I might prefer Turning: Turning Back to Slow Circle, considered by many to be his masterpiece. Good luck finding either on cd for less than $50., sadly...Finally, to my mind, these two cds are every bit as good as what Will Ackerman or Michael Hedges put out in the late 70s/ early 80s, and that's saying a lot indeed."
Classic Masterpiece Brought To CD

"I own the vinyl, cassette and CD. I don't intend to be without it in any format. This IS his MASTERPIECE. Incredible intertwining of melody and meter. At times you will swear that there are two guitarists playing. This simply not the case. De Grassi does it all. Sadly, I've missed two of his tours and have yet to see him live.

Slow Circle is one of my "Hot 100 Albums Of All Time". It is fluid, melodic, hypnotic, beautiful, and frankly, it's difficult to put into words. The "samples" offered are not enough of a taste to even whet your whistle. You need to experience the LP as a whole.

What I find most incredible is his ability to take a theme, work it inside, out, around, over, under, sideways, down and then back to the original idea without it getting old, lost or contrived. It's absolute BEAUTY in an audio form. Candy for your ears, so to speak.

I find it troubling that it's gotten so overpriced and has been discontinued by the manufacturer. I'm sure there will be an anniversary edition in the future or something as I cannot imagine this LP out of print for any length of time...If there is a copy available, you'll want to pick it up no matter what format. This is one you'll keep and listen to TIME AFTER TIME till you find it in your regular rotation."
