Original jazz-rock improvisations from this exciting trio of guitar, bass, and drums. In the spirit of Medeski, Martin, and Wood and John Scofield, Alcibiades Jones alternates intense funk rhythms with the intricate and forceful soloing of guitarist Austin Barney. Bassist Stuart Watson and drummer Alex Zanecchia provide the rhythmic foundation for Barney's harmonic explorations, a combination that proves succesful on such seering rockers as the album opener "Thermidor" and the funky "The Villa is Burning". The band also explores blues, jazz, and bluegrass on this varied debut. Of special note is the beautiful guitar composition "Down with Uncle Jed".
