CD Reviews

Warning! The title track is not the original.

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I got this on cassette back in 1982 when it was first released and it somehow got lost,so I bought a CD copy.I knew something was wrong immediately when the harmonica line with the old man saying he wants to climb a mountain did not appear and the song started right away. The song was over before I knew it and it was considerably shorter than I remembered.

In a side by side comparison,I soon discovered that the version of "Mountain Music" that appears on this album is the crappy sounding shorter, remix version and is the same one that appears on the 41 number one hits collection. The worst thing is that it is not indicated anywhere on the front cover that the content of the album has been changed. Why? I guess the folks at Bmg thought the fans would'nt notice, but it's wrong to cheat the fans out of what they paid for despite the fact the remainder of the album remains intact.

My suggestion is to go further into the Alabama catalog and buy an older copy of this album released under the RCA label. It has the RCA logo at the bottom of the album cover. The version of the song,"Mountain Music" is the full length, true original. It sounds great and is the only authentic version of this album available.Avoid this reissued version at all costs."
