CD Reviews

"Beautiful music with a touch of mystery....!"
Michael Lehmann | Lackawanna, New York United States | 06/13/1999
(5 out of 5 stars)

"My wife's love of foreign films has given me the chance enjoy many great films I would never have seen otherwise. When I gave her "The Mystery of Rampo" as a gift we were both taken with the soundtrack. The lush themes weaving in and out of the story absolutely mesmerized us both. The CD is as beautiful as the music was as experienced in the film. It is very remenicient of John Barry from "Somewhere In Time". If you love stunning scores, be sure to add this CD to your collection!"
Great Movie music
Brian Whistler | Forestville, CA United States | 02/04/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I don't often have to buy a film soundtrack, but I needed to own this one. The producer of this film took over part way thru and directed himself, throwing out the electronic score and getting Senju to do this orchestral version. It is hard to imagine any other music to compliment the lavish imagery of this intriguing and visionary film.

Senju's romantic harmonies and rich orchestral timbres remind me of Morricone, however it is not derivative. What emerges is distinct and pure, heartful and powerfully emotional, yet remaining pristine and unsentimental. This is due to the incredible compositional discipline this Senju exhibits.

It is rare that I feel the need to transcribe the themes of a film, but I have done just so with this music. It is a unique contribution to cinematic music."
Great Orchestral Work!

"...I've not watched this movie yet, but as I know Akira Senju, who is definitely best film and orchestral music composer after Toru Takemitsu in Japan,I know the music must be great. This album is performed by Czech Philharmonic Orchestra that insures top-rate performance. The Love Theme flows with Oboe and Cello, beautiful melody and orchestration. Akira Senju is great at writing melody, his music always has moving melodies and harmonies. This soundtrack is absolutely must have for any fan of those great film composers. Also, if you got chance,be sure to own another soundtrack of Akira Senju which named "The Last Song",an excellent orchestral soundtrack to die for."
