His breathy, un-flute-like timbre, his emphasis of the lowest notes, and his obvious passion conveyed that spirit. The Playasound CD brings out these qualities in a series of remarkable unaccompanied solo improvisations (taksim), the longest of which lasts for an unmatched 23 minutes.
