Synopsis

Product Description
The Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village (ASYV) is a residential community created in 2008 for childred orphaned during the Rwandan genocide. The village is a place of hope, where traumatized youth can "dry their tears"(Agahozo) and "live in peace" (Shalom). This album, Rythm of Life, is entirely a creation of the childred of ASYV. Written and recorded during ASYV's inaugural year, it features ASYV's First class of 125 students as they sing about their lives, their hopes, and their dreams for the future. Featuring a lively mixture of a capella singing, African drumming and western beats, Rhythm of Life is a remarkable musical statement, reflecting the breadth of the cross pollination currently underway in African Pop. Considering that this is the first recorded project from everyone involved in it's creation, one can only surmise that a vital musical culture is arising in Rwanda as its young people begin to forge their own future.
