CD Reviews

Dirty and Unabashed

(5 out of 5 stars)

"In the age of the romantic comedy it's easy to forget that love and sex are truly dirty things most of the time. Listening to Moffat's poetry throws me back into the wonderful state of bliss and angst that comes with young love. I Can Hear Your Heart brings to mind the uncanny parts of relationships. The music has a cinematic feel to it without being overtly pretentious. In fact, it can be downright lo-fi at times. I keep listening to new tracks and thinking, "no, this one's my favorite.""

"What an unusual and surprising album this is. Backed mostly by old garage sale vinyl records on loop, Moffat presents an incredibly linear - and as another review said 'almost cinematic' - collection of poems/songs. His songs dwell mostly on the small moments in a relationship, the troubles he has with monogamy and his obsession with sex. His cover of Springsteen's 'Hungry Heart' is a welcome surprise. 'I Can Hear Your Heart' works incredibly well as an album, with every track, radiating small moments of pure intimacy.

In the era of the iPod and YouTube this album is definitely a challenge to those accustomed to 3 minute singles. This album should be listened to whole. It demands patience from the listener. A patience which is ultimately very rewarding."
