Awe-inspiring, visceral

"this recording is magical. the vocal style of corsican singing--loud, improvisational, nasal and predominantly masculine--is given a fantastic and majestic treatment here--this is easily the best recording of corsican music i have heard. the kyrie of the first cd's mass is tear-jerking and gorgeous, and the rest is just as amazing. the second cd contains secular music of varying sorts; ballads, dances, instrumentals, and love songs are all represented. it is eclectic and fun. one gets a surprisingly clear picture of the importance of music in the culture. the only drawback is that the entirety of the liner notes is in french--not a bad sacrifice; the music speaks for itself."
