Synopsis

Album Description
John Guliak is an Edmonton-based singer/songwriter who has captured the attention of the city?s thriving country and roots community. Much like his debut 'The Black Monk,' '7 Stories and 13 Songs' reflects the poetic and political observations Guliak has made while living in various locales across Canada. These experiences are portrayed through songs that lament the displacement of rural populations to the inner cities of major metropolitan areas while celebrating the cultures that persevere. And, just as The Black Monk resonated with the stylings of such artists as Giant Sand, Townes Van Zandt, Uncle Tupelo and the Louvin Brothers, so too does '7 Stories and 13 Songs' draw upon an influential oeuvre, this time covering songs by Richard Thompson, Fred Rose and Ford Pier.
