The 21 Gessford Court Jazz Ensemble owes its existence to Gordon Tenney's passion for music who inaugurated an occasional jam session around his grand piano with an old college buddy Mark Johnson.

Then came David Weiner adding percussion. and rhythmic depth to the mix with the Brad Cooper on bass.

Gordon then recruited a singer, Kamakshi Hart into the group and seemingly overnight, critical mass had been reached and the practice venue moved over to David's house at 21 Gessford Court. The group spent Sunday evenings at 21 Gessford Court playing jazz standards and some of Mark's originals and to their amazement the band started to get hired for weddings, gallery openings, parties and soon developed a local following. On the July 4th weekend of 2002, Al Cinones, Bon Vivant, neighbor and owner of the Washington, DC's Lincoln Park restaurant Park Cafe', generously sponsored weekly live performances where Karlton Sloan, a local sax player joined
