Synopsis

Product Description
Drummer Cedric Burnside, grandson of the legendary R.L. Burnside, teams up with guitar bluesman Lightnin' Malcolm, one of the leading younger generation artists on the scene today, for a backwoods set of music firmly rooted in the Delta. Over the years they've worked with the best Mississippi legends in blues including R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, T-Model Ford, Jessie Mae Hemphill, Hubert Sumlin and the North Mississippi All-Stars. Together they have crafted a sound reminiscent of minimalist rock duos such as The Black Keys or The White Stripes, while still retaining a sound uniquely their own.

CD Reviews

Outstanding

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Wow...After seeing these guys live I had to get their album. They bring their style of "Hill Country Blues" to the studio as well as they do it on stage. I only wish I could have been on R.L. Burnside's front porch when these guys were just messin' 'round! Somewhere up in Heaven He is listening and smiling...well, well, well."
Cedric Burnside Lightnin' Malcom - Average Blues Album

(3 out of 5 stars)

"This Mississippi duo features Burnside on drums / vocals and Malcolm on guitar and vocals. Burnside is the son of blues legend R.L. Burnside. The album is pure Mississippi hill blues. I like this album, but I find it a little bit frustrating that all of the songs are in the 3 to 4 minute range and these guys never really flesh anything out. I have the feeling that both of these guys could really jam if they wanted to, but the solos are kept short and simple here. The songwriting is pretty typical of this style. There is nothing here that is what I would call innovative, but everything is well written and performed. Overall this is a good solid blues album, nothing that will blow you away, but it does provide a pleasant listen."
