Joy Ride takes off with a burst of brass-punched R&B grooves and Andrea?s soaring vocals on the wistful "My Friend," which celebrates the reunion of friends. As promised, the title cut is an all-out festive funk jam with a clapalong intro, bright horn harmonies and some of James? sparkling guitar work. Andrea unveils her wondrous and sensuous flute playing anda jazzier vocal approach on the ultra-romantic "My Favorite Place" before she and James, in a sentimental mood, create a "Sensation" with their beautiful vocal harmonies. "Somethin' Smooth" finds them in an anthemic mode, urging the listener to "do something smooth and cool" over a punchy brass and soul groove. The largely instrumental "Until We Say Goodbye" is one of the disc?s best showcases for the way the couple complements each other musically; Gentle wordless vocals and Andrea?s dreamy flute solo balance James?snappy electric guitar jazz lines magnificently.
