Questions about SwapaCD - Away From Home and automated reminders - View Inline

I just returned from a two-week vacation (away from internet access), which I notified SACD of in advance through the Away From Home option. I ordered a CD last month, and it didn't arrive until after I departed. On my return, I found the standard sequence of automated reminders in my inbox: 1) did you receive the CD? if not, hang tight; 2) ditto, and please log in to the site; 3) ditto, and if you don't log in w/in 24 hours we're giving the credit to the sender. The last message was sent several days before my return. I think the "giving the credit to the sender" idea is a really good one in general. However, when the recipient has already notified SACD of Away From Home status, it seems to me this shouldn't happen until the recipient's return. Fortunately, the CD actually did arrive in good condition, but it could easily have happened otherwise. I understand that a sender should only have to wait so long for acknowledgement of receipt, and that this measure is in place to prevent abuse of the system. But it would be so much more user-friendly to have the automated reminder part of SACD at least recognize my Away status, and not demand that I log in within 24 hours when I've already declared my inability to do so. (Please note that this is only a small flaw in a system which I have found to be, on the whole, exceptionally effective and pleasant to use.) |
