Banjo in the Bluegrass
Title: Banjo in the Bluegrass
Artist: Adam "Swannee" Swann
Label: Peter Pan (ISP), X5 Music Group
Release Date: 4/16/1995
Date: 6/10/2009

I loved this cd! This is traditional bluegrass at its best! Anyone who lives in northern Indiana, will recognize the Notre Dame march. Great cd, but it does not say who any of the musicians are.

This is a GREAT cd. A wonderful example of pure bluegrass. This is one of Alison's few real bluegrass releases, and it is great. There isn't one song that I wont listen to over and over. Best tunes in my opinion on it are # 2, 5, 6, 7. Check it out!

Hamilton Ironworks
Title: Hamilton Ironworks
Artist: John Hartford
Label: Rounder
Release Date: 9/11/2001
Date: 3/28/2009

As John Hartford says on the introduction track this album is an album of memories for him. Through each tune after one break on the fiddle he tells a story about the song or about some of his pickin' friends such as the Goforths and Doug Dillard. These are all old time fiddle tunes, and for someone who likes old time music, they will just love this cd! A few of the tunes, you get to hear how they were originally played such as Dusty Miller, which sounds different than the way people play it today. This cd is like a sequel to Speed of the Old Long Bow.

Like Minds
Title: Like Minds
Artist: Psychograss
Label: Sugar Hill Records
Release Date: 5/21/1996
Date: 4/23/2009

Really good-definately Progressive Bluegrass, though. It sound very weird when Tony plays the bowed banjo. If you didn't know that it was a banjo, you never would figure it out! Best tune on the whole album in my opinion-Jeremy Reel.

For all those Ralph Stanley fans out there, you sure wont be dissapointed by this recording. The tunes are for the most part Stanley originals, with the original Ralph helping II with the vocals. Great hard-driving bluegrass.

This cd was GREAT!! Personally, I think it is one of Ponty's best. I always liked his live stuff better than studio. This is a great first choice for someone who has never heard his music, and wants to give it a listen. Live at Chene Park is another good one.

Meanings Of...
Title: Meanings Of...
Artist: Mark O'Connor
Label: Wounded Bird Records
Release Date: 1986
Date: 3/27/2009

I really enjoyed this Mark O'Connor album. This is not for people who only enjoy Mark's traditional fiddle music. All of the songs on here are a mixture of folk, jazz, new age, and rock. Mark adds an electric guitar and a synthasizer to a few tunes which gives it the rock/new age feel. He also plays the mandolin, hammered dulcimer, and bass on here besides guitar and fiddle.

Rising Tide
Title: Rising Tide
Artist: Chesapeake
Label: Sugar Hill Records
Release Date: 1994

The newest album by Chesapeake, this is very similar to Jimmy Gaudreau and Moondi Klien's album 2:10 train. The tunes are very good on here. By the way Tony Rice is on guitar-not Tony Rico

Simple Pleasures
Title: Simple Pleasures
Artist: Alison Brown
Label: Vanguard
Release Date: 1990
Date: 4/23/2009

As you can see from under the credits, Alison's band is basically the David Grisman Quintet, with Alison Krauss and Mike Marshall. The styles on this cd range from tune to tune. The second tune, Leaving Cottondale is a nice traditional-sounding bluegrass banjo tune, while Daytime TV is purely Dawggrass. Overall, I really enjoyed this older Alison Brown cd. Rating:9/10

You Were There for Me
Title: You Were There for Me
Artist: Peter Rowan/Tony Rice
Label: Rounder Select
Release Date: 9/28/2004
Date: 4/23/2009

Really loved this album! I listened to Peter & Tony's cd Quartet, liked it so much, that I got this one, and this one was even better. Some of the best tunes were Tin Roof Shack and Wild Mustang. If you listend to Quartet first, I will say that Tony doesn't play as fancy on this one, but none the less, this is one of my favorites!
