He developed his style by studying Paul Whiteman's recordings. The result was that Hylton's music ended up being superior to Whiteman's - he mastered the twenties and thirties feel of music perfectly with great arrangements, wonderful singers (especially Sam Browne and Pat O'Malley), and talented musicians.
